The Roost
"The Roost" provides quality Deer, Turkey, and Dove hunts. Because we are located on the Alabama/Mississippi border, we hunt in both states. The Roost is farmland and we farm for big deer. Our hunters hunt over row crops of soybean, corn and during the winter, wheat fields and CRP. This is "Hedgerow Country" where a hunter can see for hundreds of yards (what the French would call "Bocage" ), much like Normandy or Nebraska. Our deer generally bed in CRP and heavily timbered creek bottoms and hedgerows. During the antler-growing season, our bucks are feeding on engineered high protein as well as vegetation like soybean, clover, honeysuckle and other plants rich in nutrients. During the winter there is plenty of spilled corn and soybean leftover from the harvest as well as natural browse.
This lush, fertile land is renowned for growing trophy whitetail and plentiful turkey. Our first class facility located in Pickens County, just outside of Aliceville, has proven to be one of the premier hunting lodges in the South. We have worked to establish over 7,500 acres of prime whitetail habitat. This means that you can enjoy a successful hunt with knowledgeable guides in surroundings designed for a great outdoor experience.
Lake Dancy
Lake Dancy is located in the center of The Southern Legend Outfitters Game Preserve (7,500 acres), providing anglers with an unmatched esthetic surrounding. Located in central western Alabama, bisected by the Alabama-Mississippi state line, Lake Dancy is 15 miles SW of Aliceville.
Convenient all weather access, including gravel roads and a concrete boat ramp, insures a hassle free day on the water.
Numerous design features were "built in" to create structural diversity. The lake was built around a long and winding creek, surrounded by hardwood timber and brush. None of the woods have been cut down, making an ideal habitat for large fish. Acres of standing timber will not allow a bass boat to "get in" but at the same time provides hiding places where large bass can keep on growing and growing.
Extraordinary care has been given to forage fish. The crawfish population, already native to the creek, has exploded and provides a high protein addition to all the other available forage. Two species of bream and threadfin shad have been released and are doing extremely well in this properly fertilized impoundment.
Most of the bass that is being caught are fat and are known as "football fish", due to well rounded girth, which makes a 14" inch bass weigh approximately 3 1/2 pounds! Fish for trophy bass then relax in our lodge. Spend the night in The Roost and get up the next morning and do it all over again!
Bring your own boat or rent one of our 6 flat tops on site!
